The Orlando Angels Block WBC's Protest of Memorial
Actors rally around families of Pulse Shooting Victims
What Happened
On June 12, 2016 Omar Mateen went into Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL and committed the largest massacre in the history of the United States. A CNN article informs that Mateen had been previously investigated by the FBI after they found out of his sympathies to terrorism.
The Westboro Baptist Church, well known for its hate speech, did not hold back on this one. They took to twitter claiming that “GOD SENT THE SHOOTER”, they further addressed the shooter declaring that he should have “made a sign with God’s message” and that he and “slain f**s are in hell.”
When the WBC decided that they would be protesting at the memorial service for the friends and families of the victims, the Orlando community united in a protest of its own. Members of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and the art community in Orlando got together to design angel costumes with large wings, that would be able to block the hateful picket signs from being seen by the memorial attendees.
